Spring 2020    MCEN5228-014    Introduction to Nanoscale Transport

This course introduces the basic concepts and methods to understand nanoscale transport phenomena that are ubiquitous in microelectronics, nano-enabled renewable energy technology, heat transfer, nano-optics, Micro/Nano-Electro-Mechanical-Systems (MEMS/NEMS), as well as emerging quantum technologies. Relevant laboratory and real-world applications and examples will be discussed. Topics covered in this course include basics of solid-state physics, quantum mechanics and electromagnetics, nano-electronic transport, nanoscale heat transfer, experimental techniques and instrumentations for characterizing/testing nanoscale materials and devices.
